“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
If God is love, then surely God is not alone. As Christians, we believe that from all eternity, God has dwelt in perfect beatitude as three persons, as Father to His Eternal Word, His perfect Son, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. We refer to this unity of persons within the Godhead as the Trinity.
As I begin prayer, in order to ground myself in a prayerful mindset, I try to call to mind the very foundation of all reality: this community of divine Persons, the eternal Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I focus on the furious outpouring of unselfish Love that flows between the Father and His perfect image, His beloved Son, an outpouring so profound and consuming that it constitutes the third person of the divine Godhead, the Holy Spirit.
Next, I think about how much God must love each of us, that He sacrificed this beloved Person, His divine Son, even unto the torture of the cross, as a ransom for our sins, in order to purchase us back from the slavery to sin and death we had sold ourselves into. We understand that, even if we had been alone in our sin, God still would have made this sacrifice on our behalf alone.
All of Christianity flows from this idea of God, not as one, but as a community of three persons, and from the relationships between them. This total outpouring of self is the standard which believers should strive for in their own lives, for in this relationship is the principle and reality of love itself.
In the ‘Glory Be’ prayer, we celebrate this loving underpinning:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.
I got through fine. Will be back. Just got in from store with TG stuff as we have ours in the weekend before so the kids can go to the in-laws. Am pooped right now. Just wanted to let you know all is working well. God Bless, SR

Yay! Thanks for checking it for me. TG came early this year. I hope you have a blessed and joy filled weekend. No rush at all. I probably won’t have up much new material through the holiday anyway.

Unselfish Love. Giving it all for another. If we would continuously think of that, how much easier and better our lives would be. How much easier it would be to give the same thing to others. Yet, that old selfishness always has a way of raising it’s head in us, doesn’t it?
It is like, “Hurt me, and watch that love fly out that door!” That is not how God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit are, is it? They are like, “Hurt Me, and Me, and Me, and all I can do is love you more.” Good post.
Did you close your other blog out? God Bless, SR

Thank you! It is true, I have noticed a shift in my perspective when it comes to the hurtful behavior of others. Sort of a ‘view from above’ experience. I can see how silly we are, in the moment, with our small-mindedness, and can remember my own tendencies towards selfishness, and try to steer things back on course.
I have not closed my other blog. I have many friends there who I would like to keep up with.

I thought it was pretty funny, I have to admit. Thanks for checking it out! I am swamped right now with kids and thanksgiving and may actually finally join the church this weekend, too, so a lot going on, so I haven’t had time to mess with it. Do you have plans this week? I hope it is a nice time, wherever you are.

Thank you so much, again! It was on Sunday. It was a good Thanksgiving as well. My eldest has autism and family meals are sometimes chaotic, but dinner was a nice, relaxed time!

Glad you had a good one. So sorry about your son. I have a friend with a son who has autism also. I have to say, in some ways this kid amazes me. So smart on so many things. God Bless, SR

Yes and yes! hahaha! I felt a little unsure of myself and my confession, but I remembered what you said about Faustina and the sister who was worried about her confession, too. I obsessed a bit, but was cognizant at the same time of making an idolatry of my sins and taking the focus away from His mercy. So, it was beautiful, and terrible, and wonderful, all at once. Easier to process, in the following days. And still underway, in many ways. Thank you for asking and caring! 🙂
